Yey!!! Woohoo!! Yippee!! We have a gorgeous smile on camera - AT LAST!! Daniel, you've been smiling for 3wks now and yet this is the first time we've got a really good one on camera! As you can see, there is also a pickie of you looking like you'll take after your Daddy on the piano front! I do hope so! Let's hope you make a better pianist than your Mummy!! You are 9wks old tomorrow and you are continuing to delight us every day - thank you! xx

Dear Daniel, The last week has been lots of fun and sadly lots of tummy ache - again! Its really hard to see you in so much pain. Thankfully yesterday was a really good day and you only had one bout of nasty pain, but oh, you cried and cried which made Mummy so sad. The tears rolled down your cheeks for half an hour. You were unconsolable. Even Daisy was really concerned and came over to try to help by nuzzling up to you. But at the end of 30mins there was the most almighty explosion and your nappy nearly flew off! You then collapsed in an exhausted little heap in Mummy's arms, thankful it was all over - we both were! Meanwhile, this week Mummy and Daddy have been desperate to get your beautiful smiles on camera. Above are attempts which were clearly unsuccessful!! You are obviously bored of the camera!!! There is a gorgeous photo of you smiling on the camera right now, but Daddy is at work and Mummy can't remember how to get the picture from the camera to the computer! She's really not that much of a computer dinosaur!! So it'll have to wait for tonight! You are changing so fast at the moment. You really enjoy putting your fists into your mouth and bopping the Pooh characters on the play gym and crinkling the yellow flower. You love to kick your legs in the air, particularly when you're having a 'fresh air without the nappy' time! Your head control is so strong and you focus really clearly on everything around you - you're a joy! As your Daddy said the other night ''we have a fantastic little kid'' Thank you for bringing such happiness into our little family. xx

Daniel, even Daisy was attempting to help with your colic last night! She was so concerned that she came and lay beside you in one of your short moments when you fell asleep! Sadly she was also concerned for her shoe (dog chew!) and accidently flipped it onto you at one point and on retrieving it, she woke you up and you started screaming all over again!!! Ooops a Daisy!!!
However, just to say that we did still try to keep a game of scrabble going!!! Sadly it wasn't the best game! at 10.20pm Mummy needed to go to bed - its the longest past 9pm that she's stayed up for a month! Once again, Daddy reigned and won outright! He's really very good! Mummy has beaten him just twice in two years! She thinks if she can keep up winning once a year that's enough for her to be happy with!! :-) Daddy was just wonderful with you and cuddled & loved you through your spasmodic colic whilst watching the election debate whilst Mummy went to get some precious sleep - thank you Daddy :-) x
Dear Daniel, Mummy and Daddy were given some advice when they got married, to have a 'Date' night each week. In this busy life that we lead its too easy to forget to spend time just together as a couple. We have endeavoured to keep Thursdays as date nights in the past 18mths. We don't necessarily go out and spend money on restaurants, in fact, we prefer to spend a lot of the dates in over a game of scrabble - incidentally, where Daddy always wins! Anyway, last night we had our first date night since you were born. To make it special, Mummy set the table with a candle and made a nice meal. Sadly, the nasty colic that you are having to cope with made its appearance as early as 5.30pm and didn't go away until 1.30am! Its absolutely not your fault Daniel, its the nasty colic. Daddy and Mummy took turns to hold you whilst you were in pain while the other tried to quickly eat. We were tempted at one point to share the choc chip ice cream with you to see if it helped with the pain! A warm bath didn't help you. A very long feed with Daddy didn't help you. Thankfully you slept peacefully from 1.30am onwards - poor you...

Hi Daniel, wow! You're 7 weeks old tomorrow!! Wow! We are loving you being around so much! You are really beginning to take an interest in the world around you. You are spending a little more time awake each day, focussing hard on the new objects that you see and following things and giving us little smiles. You're amazing! You may notice a small ramekin of maltesers by Daddy's elbow! These are Mummy's favourites and Daddy has to be quick if he wants to share them with her!!

Dear Daniel, I'm sure you won't necessarily think these are cute! But your Mummy does! The socks are SOOOOOO tiny! :-)

Dear Daniel, these photos are really for Cool Fun Aunt Julia in Togo to see her little Daisy at her favourite passtime....a shower! Daddy and Mummy thought they were doing so well at having 2hours walking around Graves Park and managing to keep Daisy away from thick sludgy stuff. We were on the last leg before heading to the car, when, you've guessed it, Daisy saw a squirrel and thought she could catch it - she never has! She flew gracefully over the little stream which 'appeared' to have a couple of inches of water in it. We held our breath...phew...she didn't go in! But then, in order to return, despite shouting 'over' Daisy decided to plonk herself into the stream, which was no stream! She immersed herself up to her tummy in thick black sludge! Mummy laughed as she's quite used to this, Daddy needed a couple of seconds to get his head around the futility of potentially being annoyed and then laughed too!! Again, you missed this as you were asleep! Mummy then had to walk back to the pond with Daisy and encourage her to go in for a swim so that they were both allowed back in the car and not forced to have a 5mile walk home! However, on returning home, Daisy instantly knew what was awaiting her....a blast under the hose pipe!!!! I'm sure in the future, on a hot sunny day Daniel, you'll be having fun with a freezing cold hose pipe!

Today, Sunday, we went to Graves Park after church. It wasn't quite as warm today as yesterday, but sunny and dry, so a picnic was packed and Daisy was also treated to the day out! Daddy thought the poster was funny, hence the pickie, if you can read it. The lambs were so cute and the big woolly teddy bears were also 'cute' - behind bars!! We went into the rare animal breeds section and saw a very large turkey, a very dirty pig and a very playfull goat trying to get into a wheelbarrow! I'm afraid all this was lost on you Daniel, as you slept through!

Dear Daniel, as you can see, your Daddy is great at taking photo's and really enjoys this hobby. But as you can also see, he likes to live life on the edge, unlike your Mummy! We ended up walking inbetween a bull a heifer and cow and a calf in order to get back to civilisation! I'm sure Uncle Martin told me NEVER to do this, but your Daddy seemed to think it was ok, despite the scary horns! He then encouraged the Canadian Goose to come way to close for Mummy's liking! We hope you'll grow up wanting to protect your wimpy Mummy from these beasts!

Dear Daniel, yesterday you turned 6 weeks old! Wow! It was a beautiful sunny day so we headed off to Hardwick Hall for the day, taking a picnic with us. It was lovely and relaxing as you can see from the photo showing how relaxed you were! Sadly you weren't so relaxed in the evening...your wind is getting the better of all of us... :-(

Daisy and Daniel - exhausted - after a L O N G crying/windy session!

Hi Daniel, these are pickies of you yesterday, having cuddles with both Mummy and Daddy. We are LOVING having you in our lives :-)

Dear Daniel, this picture shows you contendedly dropping off to sleep whilst the washing machine is spinning around. Daisy is looking on, checking that the washing machine doesn't jump out and grab you! When you read this at 21yrs, in the year 2031, your Mummy is curious to know whether such mundane inventions as washing machines have now been superceded and all dirty clothes are miraculously cleaned in seconds by some new fandangled technology! She actually like washing, its the drying that is cumbersome, so lets hope that has phased out by then!

Hi Daniel, today you are 5 weeks and 6 days! Almost 6 weeks!! I do hope that you're going to be better at maths than your Mummy as this is the only simple maths she can manage! Mummy is forever grateful that you were born on a decade like her, as this makes life much easier for working out your age! As you can see from the photos, you are already changing so fast. You really like to have a little time on the play mat each day, staring at the toys above you and although you don't intend to, you bop them with your flailing hands! This very large and comfortable play mat has been loaned to you by Jenny and Katie - thank you. You also love the large crinkly sunshine that Uncle Andy and Auntie Paula got you which you play with on here too.

Dear Daniel, Mummy thinks she forgot to show Dave and Sue a picture of the beautiful flowers that they sent her for her birthday, so here they are. Beautiful! They include Mummy's favourite flower...fresia's (the yellow peeking at the back!) If you every want to buy your Mummy flowers, then fresia's will always put a smile on her face, as do chocolates, which by the way, came with the flowers! Yummy!
Dear Daniel, peering at you from a safe height of the top of the sofa is The Black Panther. AKA Sammy the cat! Daisy and he have a 'growing friendship' which is usually very entertaining! x
I do hope that you're not too bored of this blog Daniel!!!! x
Dear Daniel, Grandma and Grandad Hardy used to have a farm when Daddy was little. Grandma has been working hard knitting you lots of animals to play with when you visit them in Belper. I'm not sure whether these were the types of animals they had on their farm though! You'll have to ask Daddy!! x
Dear Daniel, you are 5wks old and 1 day today and its Easter Sunday. I'm afraid we ate your Easter eggs!! Mummy and Daddy are a bit partial to chocolate! You started to learn to smile at the beginning of this week and we've tried very hard to catch it on camera as you're still learning. This is pretty close to you attempting to smile!! x I'm sure we'll get many more in the days and weeks to come!
To John and Brenda, thank you so much for this cute outfit! How did you know that I really am a very hungry hippo!! xx
To Dave and Sue, thank you so much for my cute Easter Bunny! He's gorgeous and soft and pretty much the same size as me!! XX
To Cool Fun Aunt Julia... Daisy is missing you! Hope you're having a great time in Togo. xx
To Rebekah, Anna and Evie (and Sara and Dave!) Thank you so much for this cute outfit! Love Daniel xx

This is a funny attempt at a full family photo the day before you reach 5 weeks old! As you can see, it wasn't easy!!

Daniel, you have a very talented Grandma! This is your first set of dungarees that she has knitted for you. They are to be likened to your Daddy's dungarees which you can see how cute he looks in too!

Good Morning Daniel! This morning I'm afraid I'm going to embarass you, particularly if you're reading this on your 21st birthday! You look so cute and innocent here, asleep in the sink! But a week ago, I was telling your Daddy that the funniest thing about little boys, is that they can accidently give themselves an unexpected face wash! Daddy didn't believe it was possible, UNTIL, he was changing your nappy and when he looked up at you, he noticed your face was soaked! Yes, your tinky is a loose cannon! However, today, you went one better for your Mummy!!!! Whilst changing your nappy in the early hours of this morning, in the dark and quiet, lifting up your cute bottom to slide a clean nappy into place, your bottom exploded! With certainty, it was as explosive as any erupting volcano! Yellow poo shot out under pressure and managed to drench your Mummy's brand new nightshirt (bought just yesterday!) the bean bag on which Mummy feeds you AND the duvet cover of the bed she was changing you on, despite you being on a full size changing mat!!!! Daddy was called in to show the damage and take you away whilst Mummy sorted everything out! Lots of washing!! Happy Easter Saturday Daniel!! We love you SO very much :-) Thank you for making our early mornings so entertaining! xxxx

Mummy has just realised that folk reading this blog may be confused as the blogs are being published in an upside down order!! She's not very techy about these things!
Talking of which.....here is Daisy! She is looking every bit of how she feels! A little concerned about the new noises, smells and sounds that you make!!
Daniel, this is your favourite Cool Fun Aunt Julia!! She is very special to our little family. She used to be your Mummy's housemate and rates as the all time best housemate Mummy ever had :-) Auntie Julia is holding you here a few days before we all took her to the train station to say goodbye for 10 weeks. She has generously given up her time and holidays to work on a Mercy Ship which is currently based in Togo. Whilst on the ship, she'll be working as a nurse in whatever capacity they need her, helping the people of Togo to receive medical treatment that they otherwise would never receive. She's amazing and is able to read this blog in Togo right now! Daniel, you need to know that although Auntie Julia will love you very much and you will be very special to her, the truth is that Daisy will always have first place in her heart!!! Please don't be envious. Daisy has generously taken a very back seat since you came along, so having a very special, loving Auntie Julia in her life is important for her self esteem!
